Kendal Trailquest 1.8.04

An electronic SportIdent checkpointThe Kendal event was the first ever TQ that we as Mint Cake MTB had organised. From all angles it seemed to go down as a roaring success. The weather on the day was a scorcher, and the ground was very dry which led to some classic riding on some lesser used Cumbrian fells. We had a good turnout of 139 even though it was holiday season and the TQ clashed with the Selkirk Merida 100k marathon which attracted 700 riders.

Biker at one of the controls out on the courseNo-one went home empty handed as every entrant was given a bar of Kendal Mint Cake as a momento. When the results were finalised, there were also 24 prize winners in the various TQ classes. There was plenty of food to be scoffed at the end and the venue with showers and plenty of room worked out superbly.

Gary Thompson expaining how he got 3rd place overallThe pre-event anticipation and post-event banter broke all known records on the tca eGroup discussion forum. The icing on the cake was that also on Sunday 1.8.04 was Windermere Festival featuring the Red Arrows. A couple of riders came back saying that they had witnessed the jets doing a spectactular loop the loop in the sky to the West.
